ENGLISH
The English program at Riverside introduces children to classic and contemporary literature, fosters a love of reading, enhances compositional skills through a variety of writing projects, encourages creativity, and develops mastery of the mechanics of the English language. Classes are conducted primarily through discussion, with occasional lectures used to introduce new concepts. The focus of the English program is on reading and writing, as these skills are key to success in all other content areas. By the end of their course of study at Riverside, children will be able to read complex works of literature, form opinions and draw conclusions from their reading, and write clear, cogent essays about what they've read.
