All Riverside graduates should be able to:
- Design and carry out a lab;
- Write a lab report;
- Work together in groups;
- Be safe in a lab setting;
- Research science topics using the web and other sources;
- Defend theses to peers;
- Set and work toward long term goals;
- Take notes;
- Enjoy science.
In addition, all Riverside graduates should demonstrate understanding of the following content areas: What science is, The scientific method, Ecology, Biodiversity, Atoms and elements, Wave properties, Kinetics, Electromagnetism, Life processes, Human anatomy / physiology, Genetics, Weather, Plate tectonics,
Astronomy, and Water systems

These goals are assessed in both formative and cumulative ways throughout the various grades. Formative assessments include questions (both teacher and student directed), evaluation of notes, lab work, teacher feedback, etc. Cumulative assessments include tests, lab write-ups, research papers, projects, and their "big book of science". All grades are assessed at an appropriate level for their skills and understanding of the content.
